Spotlight on Stacie Burgio

How did you get started in the nursing profession?
My story as a Registered Nurse began in Southfield, Michigan, on a telemetry step-down unit. It was there I learned the fundamentals of nursing, and my love for cardiology evolved. After I formed a solid foundation on the floor, I ventured off to Detroit to become a cardiac cath lab nurse. This specialized nursing position was completely foreign, challenging, and put my skills to the ultimate test. But after six months of training, I was finally ready to take calls as a cardiac cath lab nurse.
Over the past 10 years I have worked in numerous settings in interventional cardiology, radiology, neurology, electrophysiology, and vascular surgery. During this time, I also discovered my love for teaching as a nurse educator. I was honored to give back to the nursing program that gave me my foundation as a nurse. It was truly one of the most rewarding jobs.
What do you love about your position? What has kept you passionate about your career?
I love being a cath lab nurse because I love working as a team. I love helping people and comforting them throughout their procedural experience. I absolutely love the thrill of the cath lab and saving lives.

How did you find HPC? How has HPC helped with your career?
I discovered HPC through a friend who highly recommended the company. HPC has helped me with my career by giving me guidance and support from the beginning to the end of my contracts. If there’s anything you need, HPC is always available to help you with any questions or concerns.
What advice would you give to other traveling healthcare providers?
Remember to show kindness and respect to your colleagues. We may all come with different experiences and education. But in the end, we are a team, and we are all in this together.
What do you think is the most important quality for a nurse to possess?
Patience. Take the time to make each patient feel important and safe under your care.
Do you have a memorable experience from your nursing career that has shaped you into the nurse you are today?
As a nurse, there was a time I felt insignificant and was surrounded by workplace toxicity. The best decision I have ever made in my career was escaping that unhealthy environment. As nurses, we have so many options! If you feel trapped and unhappy in your position, give something new a try! Don’t be afraid to take a leap and set out to an unfamiliar environment for a fresh start. This decision has truly shaped me into the nurse I am today!

Anything else you’d like to add?
To all my fellow nurses, remember this: We can’t take care of our patients if we don’t take care of ourselves first. We are strong, we hustle, and we are mighty!
